This one is for the Quast. I know I don't update enough, but my life is pretty boring. I go to work, lab, school, homework, sleep, repeat. Not much to post about.
Last weekend I went home because Sara and Wendy (my cousin/sister and nieceish kid) moved back to San Diego from Boston :-D Wendy just turned 2, and she is ADORABLE. I will be home this weekend for her belated birthday party. I think I spent somewhere around $100 one her presents. It is hard to not buy every cute thing I see. So that was pretty exciting...
Let's see.. other than that, I have just been busy trying to get myself some impressive things to put on my vita for grad school. I want to get into the joint doctoral program between UCSD and SDSU in clinical psychology, and their website states that they receive about 300 applications and they admit 10-13 students each year. Yikes! This means my nearly 3.9 GPA does very little for me. I have to get on the GRE and the GRE psych exams. I am also trying to find a faculty sponsor so that I can write an honor's thesis next year. The UCSD/SDSU program has a large number of faculty members that study the motivation/social influences behind tobacco use in youth. IF you know me at all (which you all do), you can imagine how perfect that program would be for me. There is one professor at UCI who has done research in that field, and I e-mailed him today, so everyone keep your fingers crossed that he will be my faculty mentor. BLAH. I feel like this is high school all over again, but instead of SATs and extracurriculars it is GREs and research experience. Oh well, I guess all I can do is my best (how cliche... I know lol)
I am in class right now, and this class is quite interesting. The professor is not American and has a very thick Czech accent, so she says things like Decembre instead of December and she says "the" in front of words like drugs, so her sentences sound like "The people drink more alcohol and use the drugs the most in the months of Decembre". So it is quite hard to follow her. AND there is this guy that is the most annoying guy I have ever met (you know how every class has THAT GUY that just needs to shut up? He is the most ridiculous THAT GUY you have ever met, and Lorrin will attest to that). He just told us that you can get really "sloshed" if you filter shoe polish through a piece of bread and drink it. WTF??? Also, last week he sat right in front of us, and I have my laptop, so I was typing, and he kept turning around and sticking his long ass dinosaur neck in my way so that he could see what is on my screen. That's right, he turned around and looked OVER my screen so he could see. Who does that? A number of dirty looks from Friend and I did nothing. We decided if it happened again we would say something like "Would you like me to turn this around so you could see this screen better?", but alas, it never happened again :(
I should probably listen to lecture now... not that I will understand her anyway, but whatever.

ps... does anyone else watch American Idol?? I hope so because I <3 Elliot. And Katherine. And I hate Chris. If you don't watch it... never mind. I hate you
