Summary: Teyla and John experience a failure to gate home…

“Just get to and dial the damn gate, McKay!” John yelled in between bursts of gunfire from his P-90.

Out of the corner of his eye he could see Teyla racing for cover behind a large tree as one of the rocks she had been using as cover was fired on by one of the larger weapons, blasting it into a million pieces. Her face was covered with dirt and blood but there was a look of pure determination on her face that reassured John she would be fine on her own.

Ronon was at his side giving as good as he got a grin on his face, seemingly enjoying it.

“Ronon, go with Rodney, cover him til he gets the gate on and then go through! Teyla and I will be right behind you,” John ordered.

Ronon gave a quick nod before taking off down the path at full speed, firing his weapon over his shoulder.

As more rocks and trees were obliterated in front of him, John swore to himself and started to make his way over to Teyla. It struck him as slightly ironic that here they were trying to defend themselves against what appeared to be some kind of energy weapons wielded by the people that they had just spent the last three days with. They had come through the gate hoping to make contact with a civilisation more advance than those they normally came across in the Pegasus Galaxy and in their fast becoming track record with such missions they, a little later than sooner, found themselves high tailing it for the gate whilst under fire.

John’s radio clicked as Rodney informed them both the gate was active. John glanced at
Teyla and they made silent plans to take turns in providing cover fire as they made their way back to the gate.

They raced through the woods and as the gate came into view, John could make out Rodney and Ronon going through the gate. Once they saw them approaching, he took a moment to make a mental note to remind them what an order was. John ran a few meters ahead of Teyla and turned to provide her cover when the moment he had been dreading for years finally took place.

Teyla took a direct hit from one of the smaller energy weapons to the chest. John raced towards her as she crumpled to the ground. Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion and he panicked that he wouldn’t reach her in time. Grabbing her from the ground and hurling her over his shoulder he turned and sprinted to the gate. Just as they was about cross the event horizon it appeared to surge but John had no time to take any real notice.

He just wanted to get Teyla home.

Teyla cursed to herself as she quickly ducked down behind a pile of rocks for cover. She knew she was no weapons expert but she could tell that they were being fired upon from at least three different kinds of weapons. Two seemed to have the same sort of effect as a wraith stunner, just to vary degrees and the other seemed capable to doing a lot of damage, destroying anything it struck. Teyla was extremely glad that it appeared the latter took some time to charge up.

Suddenly a rock in front of her shattered into a million pieces, she reacted within seconds and shielded her eyes from the flying rock. After the initial danger was over she pushed off hard from the ground and made her way to some nearby trees.

Out of the corner of her eye she could see Ronon heading in the direction of the gate. She glanced around quickly but could find no sign of Rodney so she assumed he was already making his way to the gate.

As she fired off another round from her gun, John appeared at her side. There was dirt on his face and sweat on his brow but she liked him that way. Her radio clicked and Rodney’s voice broke her out of her momentary lapse of attention.

John glanced at her and she knew exactly what to do. She took off in the direction of the gate stopping after a few yards to give John cover as he raced past her. As the gate came into view she thought she saw something move out of the corner of her eye. She dismissed it and turned once more to cover John.

She heard the weapon discharge and then there was nothing.
