In order to make this festive season easier on the sanity of retail staff, please bear the following in mind:
We do not care if you found it cheaper online. Not a bit.
Using that as an opener and then asking us to match the online price you found is not going to win you any sympathy.
If you have the audacity to say you're trying the above "because you'd rather support your local store" you really need to re-think your logic.
In case it needs explaining, high street stores have a lot of extra overheads. Shop rent, staff wages... it all adds up.
So why should the customer have to pay that? The convenience for one, being able to inspect the product first, being able to get it instantly. The presence of staff to answer queries and offer advice. Somewhere to go if something goes wrong.
Just don't expect that AND online prices.
We have several regular customers who come in every week if not every day and buy something. They never ask for a discount (although we sometimes offer one out of gratitude) and they most certainly do not harp on about how brave and noble they are for supporting a local shop.
They're too busy doing it.
