Saxen is 4!

Four years ago today on a farm in Devon, a salukiXgreyhoundXcollie gave birth to 11 puppies, fathered by a deerhound, collie, greyhound, bedlington terrier, couple of other things cross. One of the puppies didn't make it. Most of the puppies found homes fairly quickly but there were four puppies left when they were taken to Roadford Wood Fair to find owners. One was to be kept by the family and that left a small black boy, a black girl and a leggy blond boy. There at Roadford one of them found a home. The leggy blond boy.

Four years later, Saxen is a generally happy raw fed lanky lurcher. He is commonly mistake for being not long out of his puppyhood. He is recognised and known by people all over the UK and in by people in several other countries. His image is stamped into nearly everything that dave makes for sale. Only last week he was recognised by a complete stranger to ourselves who knew him from dave's website. He annoys me and delights me. He is the dog I wanted in my childhood. He loves cuddles, goes crazy with joy when I get home from work, and is generally happy to run around and follow me into mischief. Okay so he also doesn't listen when you tell him to do something and only last week decided to dig up my newly planted spring onions. He whines and howls and gets very insistent when he wants something. He was in the car crash that could have killed us. He's scared of guns and bangs. He's scared of water because he could have drowned as a pup, but still enjoys a paddle when it's warm. He loves it when his family are all at home with him and doesn't like it when we have to leave him.

He's my Saxen. And I love him. And today, today he's four years old.
