Over the past few weeks I've been taking personal note of my heros of the day. The kind of people whom you run across and just make your whole day. Well I need to share today's with you.
It's Sunday as some of you may know. I woke up late as I imagine a lot of you did too. I had a few things to take care of for AiB so I got on my bike and headed to the office. As I was riding I decided a bagel and some coffee was in order. I rolled up to the dunkin donuts and locked up. I walked in greeted by the usual lot of south philly misfits, all there trying to get their days going, just like me. I take my place in line with about 10 other folks when
a gwen stefani song comes on the radio. I know the name of the song but it's always going to be Woo Hoo to me.
So the song is pretty loud for an in store radio, but over it I still manage to hear someone singing along with the wooo hoo's in the chorus. This makes me chuckle a little to myself, but I quickly loose interest focusing on sustenance. With the quickness I get my food, as is usually the case at dunkin donuts, and I make my way for the door. As I walk towards the door the chorus is approaching, and out of the corner of my eye I see an elderly woman who'd I'd guess to be in her 70s standing against the wall. She was slowly rocking on the balls of her feet, wearing an old pair of sun glasses, sipping a small coffee, and singing "wooo hooo!" along with the chorus loud enough for everyone to hear. Obviously a huge smile came across my face which she quickly noticed, replying "You like that don't ya?"
All I could do was tip my coffee, walk on and know that she would undoubtedly be my Hero of the day.
