Jensen was a little nervous. He didn't want to be. He got his test back, and Jared took him out to lunch for it. Jared, of course, made an A. Jensen rolled his eyes a little. Jared was ridiculously smart. It wasn't fair really, for someone to be both that smart and that gorgeous.
Jensen had been sitting in the library since Jared deposited him there over an hour ago. His books were strewn about him, and he dangled a pen from his left hand. Studying alone was overrated.
Someone waved a hand in front of his face, and Jensen refocused and caught sight of Chad off to his right.. He had been daydreaming for over thirty minutes and got absolutely no studying done. He didn't complain much because his brain was overrun with Jared. Anyone would put Jared over studying.
He looked up to see Chad across from him, pawing through his backpack for God knows what. "What are you doing?" Jensen resisted the urge to roll his eyes again.
"Don't you eat those power bars? Don't you have some?"
"No, Chad. What do you want?"
"Why you so tetchy, Jenjen? Just wanted a snack." Chad stuck his chin in his hands looking for all the world like a pouty little boy.
"Just a little nervous about later."
"The bowling thing? Come on, Jensen. That's cake. You had to deal with so much other shit before. It's just that one chick."
"Yes, you're right. I mean, I am friends with you," Jensen agreed dryly.
"God, why are you so jealous of me? It's not becoming, Jen."
This time he did roll his eyes.
"Hey, Jensen, you seen Chris?"
"Not today, but I'm sure he's around here somewhere."
"Who's around here somewhere?" Jared asked bouncing up to them both and practically sitting on top of Jensen.
Jensen smiled so big it hurt his face. He really couldn't believe how much he missed Jared when he wasn't around, and it wasn't like he hadn't seen him twice today already.
"Hey you."
Jared squeezed Jensen's thigh in return greeting, and Jensen could see the promise of later in his eyes.
"Chris. Have you seen him?"
"Oh, yeah. I just left him in the union. He was chatting up some people. He likes to hold court."
"That's my boy."
"Right, it's the love corner now, so I'm gone."
Jensen didn't even look away, and he murmured idly, "Bye, Chad."
**
Jared didn't want to go if Jensen was going to get this worked up. It wasn't worth it. Jensen didn't deserve to be put in the path of something like this, not when his day so far had been all full of awesome.
He was sitting on Jensen's bed, watching Jensen change again for the fifth time. He sighed and decided to try something new as all his other words went unheard.
"Jen." When Jensen didn't even glance at him, Jared hauled him bodily toward him and circled his arms around Jensen's waist. He held on until he felt Jensen run long fingers through his hair. Then, he held on tighter.
"Jensen. This isn't supposed to be hard." Jared looked up at him then, rested big hands on Jensen's hips. "This is supposed to be fun. I want you to have fun. If you won't, then we aren't going. You are better than all this. Better than her, better than me, better than fucking bowling. I want you to remember how you were."
"I don't want to remember how I was, Jay. I want to experience how I am now. With you."
Jared smiled wide and open and fell back pulling Jensen on top of him. Jensen took that opportunity to kiss Jared crazy, and there was no way he was complaining.
When Jensen let him up, Jared rested hands on his back and looked at him and said simply, "I love you. There's nothing wrong with you. Never will be."
Jensen's smile was blinding. Jared lost all thought for a few moments. Then he asked in a whisper, "Do you think you can remember that?"
"I don't think I'll ever forget it."
Jared never would either.
**
Jensen breathed deep as soon as they walked in the door. The bowling alley smelled like shoe leather and beef jerky. He had no idea how that worked, and he almost didn't want to find out.
He spotted Sandy and Danny and their little clique almost immediately. He would not throw up. He just kept repeating that to himself.
Jared was right behind him. Jared would never let him go. He was pretty sure he'd never been cherished before. He rather liked it. Most of that had to be Jared, though. He was infectious. He was a drug.
When Sandy spotted them, she came bounding over with Danny in tow. Jensen counted his breaths up to ten, back down to one. As soon as the girls got closer to them, Jensen felt Jared slip his hand around his and twine their fingers together.
He bent down and whispered in Jensen's ear, "¿Recuerdas? Mírame, cariño." And when Jensen complied, looking into Jared's indescribable eyes, he repeated, "¿Recuerdas?"
Jensen smiled again, felt himself laugh a little. "Yeah, Jay. I remember." He turned back just as Danny walked up to him.
"Jensen. Good to see you out."
"Danneel." He inclined his head, and then turned to hug Sandy. She was so sweet, and she tried so hard. When Jensen pulled back, he wrapped an arm around Jared's waist and hauled him close to his side before saying, "Danny, this is Jared. My boyfriend. Jared, this is Danneel, my former best friend."
Danneel's eyes went cool as she assessed Jared.
Jared for his part just went on like nothing was wrong, "Nice to meet you. So," he continued, "is it girls against boys bowling tonight?"
Sandy jumped on that plan and dragged them both off towards their lane.
Jensen didn't even look at Danny as he headed to where Jared was. He had a feeling he'd be doing that forever. That didn't bother him in the least.
