I think the Lions would be up for it. My only (Its almost inevitable I know) concern is that while H&H was fantastic I don't think people would want it too often
There's some suggestion of the Bears making it an annual event with different clans hosting, and, I'm sure Lions will be welcome again. There's also the potential PBs/Splitter tournament, which is looking like a similar shape event, and is unlikely to be closed to other groups. If the Lions as a whole organised a social weekend, I'd be up for it.
I think it's biggest and most important charm was that it *wasn't* for "the faction" - whatever faction that happens to be. It's the cross-factional element of it that is most needed, IMO. At the big events we're all too busy feeling (or indeed being) threatened by other factions or non-faction baddies that we don't really have a chance to bolster inter-factional relations and diplomacy. Standard, clinical diplomacy as practised by the diplomats is all very well, but it's lip-service, it's words. True alliances and support are made by friendships and trust, which are made by hanging out gossiping, drinking and dancing ;)
At our event there were - almost exactly - twice the amount of Bears as non-Bears (and I bet I don't need to tell you that the Lions made up a LOT of the non-Bears).
We advertised to the Bears and to the friends of our clan really. I think it would help very much if the Lions ran something like this that it was one group inviting friends as we did - which meant we could deliberately exclude the ones that we (IC) did not like at all. Which is why, for instance, Lannister McAylwyn was there rather than Si's actual character who would have been about as welcome as Benedict Darkendale. I think the fact that everyone was there as friends of the McAylwyns helped the friendly atmosphere an awful lot.
That's true (and kind of what I was trying to get at) - I just don't know if there's any groups in the Lions wth such a large number of extra-factional friends as the Bears. Is there? Genuine ignorance of whether there is or not, I mean, not euphemistically-speaking. The McAylwyns being honourary Palatinate citizens and thus honourary Lions helped a lot :)
Yes, though while it was a great event there are a few things I think could be improved on (the organisation of the Sunday being the only main one), and a few things I think worked in the event's favour that might not have otherwise. The weather mainly staying nice, for example, and the band being phenomemal. Ironically, given the Lions event, I think the site was one of the big things that helped the McAylwyn's event work.
I agree, having now seen it in two such very different events. Yes, it was made even worse for the Lions event by being in such an appalling state, but I also think it might very well have been that the event didn't need/couldn't take advantage of the pluses to Cuffley.
The big advantage of Cuffley is the space. That's more of an advantage when playing wide games than it is when trying to create a claustrophobic athmosphere of dread :)
Though they must also have been working non-stop to repair the site from what it was at the Lions to what it was at the Bears.
Yeah, big change in a mere 5 weeks :) (though admittedly a lot of that would simply have been spreading gravel piles that were already there)
Also can't help thinking that the weather played a huge part in the greater appreciation of the site this time too. Everything looks better in the sunshine. And even what rain there was wasn't real rain - it was still quite bright.
