I am plumb tuckered.
The day began at 10am going to Dmundo tile to hopefully find enough decent/cheap tile in stock so we can get our place tiled this week. We had already spent hours at Home Depot and Lowe's both- to no avail. My Dad, being the professional he is, recommended going to a REAL tile store.
Luckily there we found a decent porcelain (stronger than ceramic) tile..a nice warm/neutral tan for $1.69 a sq foot (pretty good sale price...we were looking at crappy stuff for the same price and nice stuff for $2 a sq foot more). Not only that but my Dad does lots of business there so I got him on my cell phone and he talked to the lady at the counter and go everything situated for us. All we had to do was break out the plastic haha.
We then proceeded to watch our poor little car be loaded with 1,000 lbs of tile. That was only half of it. We low rided it at 25 mph all the way to our house. We then made 2 more trips.
That took almost 4 hours (with a stop for lunch at Rubio's thrown in).
Then we (Steve, Robert and I) each chose a daunting task and slaved away sweating like pigs from about 4-8. For those of you in construction...I know...this is a normal day for you. But I am a wimpy clerical worker. Anyways...Steve stripped the adhesive from the master bedroom floor...which required a real ventilator- that stuff was scary. Robert patched up the cieling in his bedroom where termites had munched away (luckily...the seller forked out $1,800 to have the termited eradicated).
And I primered the kitchen and started staining the cabinets. I haven't sweat this much in a long time. Half-ways through staining the cabinets I heard a crash coming from the master room and invisioned Steve collapsing from the toxic fumes so rushed to his rescue. Well that was a bad idea because he was ok (a broom fell), but I slipped on the volatile adhesive stripper and promtly felt it burning the skin off my knee. Well it didn't really but it felt like it and I had visions of it doing so. I ran screaming to my husband who calmly put me under a hose and cleaned me up.
I was fine.
Then we went to Carl's Jr and now I'm home...still covered in primer, stain, paint thinner, drywall dust, dirt, sweat and water from the hose. Time for a shower. At least this will be all over with and we'll be settled in by July 1. Come and visit....thats the fun of owning a home is opening it up to you all.
Gnite.
