Something about the mission had seemed... different from the start. So when they found a piece of alien technology, the team probably should have been a little more suspicious. It was whilst they were investigating it that it had set off a timer. Counting down to what quickly became evident to be an explosion of some kind. As they tried to find someway of getting out, Steve had gotten caught in the explosion. He was quickly taken out of there by a medical team and up to the helicarrier. The rest of the Avengers were told nothing about how he was or what was going on and now Director Fury was telling them that Steve was to have no visitors. At his own request.
