All Girls, All Led Zeppelin

I went with Tony and his son to see an all female Led Zeppelin tribute band last night. Lez Zeppelin they were called and they played at the little Magic Bag theater in Ferndale. I was expecting a good time and not much more. As a work friend said when I told him of my plans, "What's the point? Girls can't play the guitar, they can't play the drums, how can they play Zeppelin?"

I wouldn't put it that harshly, but I didn't anticipate very much musically. Most tribute bands a sort of a joke and I had little reason to expect much more than that, a novelty act at best.

But it turns out they were quite good both musically and vocally. The band started out strongly with The Immigrant Song and ended several hours later after performing Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog, Dazed and Confused, Kashmir and many more.

The opening band was the Vamps, also all female. They were pretty good and I kept thinking during their set, "I bet they blow the main act out of the water." But I was wrong. The ladies of Lez Zeppelin rocked.
