Squeezed by the Governor

This afternoon I was videotaping a groundbreaking ceremony for work and one of the guests of honor was Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm. I had set my camera and tripod up at the back of the canopy that served as the speaking area. When the Governor arrived, I popped the camera off the tripod to get some shots of her shaking hands and speaking with some of the people in attendance.

When it looked like they were about to start the official part of the ceremony, I returned to my tripod and started to snap my camera back onto it. And then, right behind me was the Governor saying to me, "I'll just slip through here and then we can get started." And as she moved past me, she grabbed my bicep. Of course it was just to leverage herself to get through the crowd, but still, what a rush.

Governor Granholm is, for those who don't know, a very attractive woman. And what do I say to her in return? I said,"Sure." At least I didn't babble, "Heh, I voted for you." When I told Chrissy at work my little story, she asked me how the Governor looked in person. I said, "Even better than on TV." She said that one of her professors said the same thing, that Governor Granholm was downright stunning in person.

As a side note: it has been mentioned over the years by Democratic Party insiders that if if weren't for the fact that she was born in Vancouver, B.C., Jennifer Granholm could be a strong vice-presidential or presidential candidate. If they ever do change that Presidents must be born in the U.S. law, look out.
