It appears that William Bennett is in hot water again. His comments to the effect that "if you wanted to reduce crime, you could...abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down," have caused quite a stir ( Read more... )

People in power are just people who had the money, connections and luck to get there. At their core, they're still people, and whatever fucked-up views or beliefs they have don't change just because they stumbled upon some extra responsibility.

I'm all for upholding people to standards, as you know, but I'm also for choosing my battles. Who in the fuck is William Bennett, but a washed up, out-to-pasture good ol' boy who's already done his part to ensure the destruction of America, and is likely simply looking for any chance of getting his face in the news?

People like Bennett aren't the problem - he's just saying what everybody who looks like him is thinking or has thought on some level. See, it's that overriding belief that a more than insignificant number of white people have that they're inherently better than anyone else because they're white that is the real issue here. I don't hate on Bennett at all, I commend him, for having the balls to speak his mind. He's better off than many of these sorry ass, milquetoast politicians calling for his apology in one hand, yet sliding away from any contact with people of color in the other.

No, I'm more busy focusing on people like Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has proven that he can love coloreds, fags, the poor, and the disenfranchised for their votes, and hate them for everything else. I mean, how can so many people have been fooled by this idiot? And now he's going to run for a second term, despite the 2nd lowest approval ratings in state history, and not only does he have a chance to win, it's a pretty damn good one? Where the hell is the logic in that?

Maybe I am resigning, but life is just too damn short. I just want to live however long I have left on this planet.

I absolutely find no fault or flaw in your logic nor in what you're saying. Perhaps I'm terrified that there are so many people out there who are more cowardly, so craven that the William Bennetts in the world only stand out to my narrow, Bay Area based views.

I concede what you are saying about the "more than insignificant number of white people" and their views. It's one of the primary reasons Mom's moving here. She's awash in it up there.

Are she and I giving up by leaving? I just got tired of being chased by thugs with baseball bats and that's why I left.

I honestly don't know what to think sometimes. It *is* too easy to sit around and just harp on Bennett-like commentary. But some part of me still can't commend him (I'm damned stubborn) and I still think his choice of topics and words was inappropriate. But maybe (seriously) that's my upbringing. And that may be a problem, too. Perhaps it's this sort of standoff of inflexibility that's the root of the problem. I think you hit on something really big.

Let's discuss. (as we always do.) Thanks for your frankness...and willingness. A person is never too old to listen to a new idea. If anyone thinks they are, THAT's a problem.

hugs.
