Random poetry

This is a short rough poem written on a recent Teens retreat at Vijayaloka. It was the result of a timed writing exercise using a line from Pablo Naruda's poem 'Keeping Quiet' which is a far more masterly work. Nevertheless, the sentiment is clear.

If we were not so single minded
there would be time and space
to see the dreams form in each others' eyes;
see them swirl, burst like clouds
and rain inspiration
upon the earth.

But, as we are of such a mind
that clings to it's own weather
we blink and turn away,
preferring our own dusty currents,
our own sullen sheet-metal skies,
my over-baked summers.
