A Road Less Traveled Travel Report

Feb 13, 2007 22:33

I almost forgot to note the personal aspects from my trip to Georgia. Since a blizzard threatens, it's only appropriate I fondly recall my time spent in a state where the low barely touched freezing while I was there and the high made it up to 70° once.

Melissa gave me grief about the latter, asking how warm it was at first and then cutting me off later in the week because it was too painful. Considering the wind chill dropped the temps well below zero while I was gone, I don't blame her.

Food was eaten. Publisher treated me to lunch every day. Tried rutabagas. Pretty nice. Sweet. Don't know how else it's prepared, but the Blue Plate in Dublin does a good job. They also make a mean pecan pie. Probably the best I've had in a long time. Dinner on Thursday night was the publisher's treat as well, a place out in the country called Tumpies in East Dublin, which offered the BEST prime rib I've had in a long time.

Couldn't find any chitlins or fried okra. And I really didn't look that hard for the first item. There was a Waffle House across from the hotel where I stayed, and I drove up to it one night, parked--and then immediately turned around. It looked decidedly unsavory.

As for the book ... I was about 50 pages short of finishing The Chinatown Death Cloud Peril before I left the Sunday before last, so I had to take it with me to finish. Monday through Friday I knocked out a good portion of Jim Butcher's Dead Beat, which was the front runner in the travel poll. Finished it this morning and entered my first book report for the year in the earlier post today. Hemming and hawing between the next Dresden and Keri Arthur's FMR. Melissa likes the latter, picking it over the Butcher because of the red cover. :-)
