Second day in a row. I'm the last one in the house to get hit by this particular bug, but I'm catching up to Melissa where it concerns coughing and a runny nose.
The only good point is I've got the start to the second chapter. It's an important one, as it establishes the SF and supernatural foundation that will let Sacrifices make sense. Not real sense; the idea is cool, but Frankenstein was a work of fiction. Right? Right?
It's not quite the novel I started out writing. Those first attempts were much more philosophical, much more blatantly literary. Lots more tell than show. Which is a habit I've seen creeping into my short fiction, such as "Some Roads," which is out at WotF at the moment. Now I've got something much more commercial, faster-paced. The literary and metaphysical elements will appear in a subtler form, generalized as an overall theme exhibited in character motivations and attitudes.
