Same word count, nada progress; Sunday was a family day that included catching a showing of The Spiderwick Chronicles.
I've got to say that while it was quite intense near the end and touched on serious material about families without offering any easy answers there weren't any scared children in the audience. And there were lots of younger children (I'm talking under the age of eight), who were probably brought by parents believing it was just a "kiddie" movie. Especially considering there's a scene near the end where the Big Bad tries to trick the hero, and the resolution/revelation even shocked me with its intensity.
There was a point where a child sitting behind us commented that a scene didn't play out the same way as the book, so my assessment of why parents brought their kids is open to exceptions. I'm sure that parent read the books to their children, so credit goes where credit is due. It's nice when parents can offer their children experiences that are more than Disney pablum, and this movie wasn't of that ilk. Kudos to Holly Black for that. My youngest, who is 12, thought it was an excellent movie, and I certainly enjoyed it.
