Dorothy Kitten

We acquired a fourth cat at the local gaming convention over Labor Day weekend.

There was a gray kitten hanging around the hotel parking lot, approaching cars and people (possibly looking for her people, who either lost her or -- more likely, given the lack of habitation in the area -- dumped her). A bit reluctantly, since we already had three cats ( Read more... )

Hooray for Dorothy!

Is she the little gray lady who Rachael Hixon found in the parking lot Saturday (I think) night? I had been under the impression from one of the front desk staff that said kitty had a family, and just came over to the hotel for socialization.

Regardless, I hope things continue to go well with the settling in. ^_^ She looks too cute for words.

Yes, that was her. Someone at the hotel may have gotten the idea that she was a local indoor/outdoor cat, but that seems unlikely given how she was depending on scraps from the hotel restaurant for food and plant-waterings for water (not to mention the general absence of residences in the neighborhood). She gained about a pound between her first vet visit and going back the other day to get her stitches out from being spayed, which suggests that she hadn't been getting enough to eat.

Oh, the poor girl! I only got to see her the once while she was happily cuddled in Rachael's arms (and I was sorely, sorely tempted to take her home with me!), but that explains the weird feeling I'd had in my gut when told she had a home. She must definitely feel like she's been dropped in Oz, then -- wonder which of the other cats would be the Lion, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Man? ^_~

Heidi (in userpic) would be the Scarecrow, with her tortoiseshell patches and her "go away" face.

Vir would be the Cowardly Lion, with his fear of humans who aren't his humans.

Kimba would be the Tin Man, with the pin in his hip from a fall he took a few years ago.

Actually, calling her gray is not quite correct, except as a rather misleading average. She's really a black smoke -- her fur is black on the outside, but white close to the skin.

When we rescued her, she was far too thin to belong to someone who was even attempting to take care of her. If she weren't so dark, her ribs would have been clearly visible; as it was, her shoulder blades visibly stuck up above her back. (From her size, we guessed 3 or 4 months--the vet says about 7 months.) And she was absolutely starved for affection. We're doing our best to meet both needs. ;)

I'll admit: the only time I saw her, it was very dark and she was being snuggled belly-up by Rachael, so I missed her true coloring and her poor little shoulder-blades. I'm sure she'll be fed and loved as much as her heart could desire (well...as much as any cat feels they get their Proper Due!) -- congratulations on being chosen!
