If I were rich

If I were rich.

If I were rich, I could afford
to eat fruits and vegetables
not just potatos and pasta.

If I were rich, I could afford
to not worry about credit card debt
I would not be afraid of my bank statements.

If I were rich, I could afford
to pay for my medications,
and maintain my health

If I were rich, I would be free
to follow my conscience,
and make environmentally sound purchases

I could drive clean cars, 
eat clean food
pay for school without fear of life-long debt.

I would know what it means to have "savings"
I would know what it means to have "security"
I would be able to sleep at night.

If I were rich, bad jobs and bad bosses would have no hold over me.
I could stand up for myself and my rights
and quit if I needed to.

Wouldn't it be a nice world
if what used to be basic amenities would remain as such, 
instead of the luxuries and privialges they have become.

Wouldn't it be a nice world 
which valued and rewarded work
instead of investment.

Instead, I'll go deeper in debt,
my food will be unhealthy and cheap
my car will pollute and breakdown frequently

I am helpless and crushed
beaten and ridiculed.
poor and unwanted.

But this wouldn't happen to me,
if I were rich.
