2022

So, it's 2022 now. We got one day under our belts, so this seems as a good a time as any to write a bit. Plus, I'm going to try and make journaling a thing for 2022. Hasn't worked well before, but if you don't keep trying, you've already failed, right ( Read more... )

Hey! Good to hear from you again. :) Sorry to hear about the job situation but at least it sounds like you have a few promising leads.

Somehow I totally missed that you were involved with motorcycles/racing, so will have to hear more about that sometime. And/or eventually get on twitter I guess. ;-P

And... I think even missed that you were in Oregon. :-P But maybe I can write that one off to old-person forgetfulness....

Also good deal on doggo. I've only ever been around spaniels or labs or the like for any length of time, so can't really identify with "smart dogs" so to speak, but that sounds like an experience.

I did a good job myself with losing weight from New Year's to "spring" (Easter) last year, so may try that again. Something more or less along the lines of the Whole 30 / Keto diet. I'm not into fad diets necessarily, but cutting sugar and most dairy and a lot of "empty carbs" out of my diet last year worked great, so I'll probably try that again and see how it goes. Just kinda eating through the last of the English Muffins and so forth, but it is a bit hard to find decent low-carb, low-starch, low-dairy breakfast food. :-P

The aggravating thing is that I biked more than 2500 miles in 2021 - which, along with walking and other cardio, wound up well north of 100,000 calories burned - yet I steadily gained weight for most of the rest of the year when I relaxed my vigilance on diet - and particularly I never did go back to drinking sugared beverages regularly, or eating candy. So, grr. I'm starting to believe some of the "set point" theory.

Of course that kind of diet does, in practical terms, force you to make your own food, because nobody in their right mind is going to try to sell food that doesn't contain dairy (at least in sauces) or bread/flour/potatoes or sugar. Pretty much you're down to plain scrambled eggs for breakfast, and potato-less beef stew, vegetable soup, or a handful of places that still sell seasoned chicken breast for lunch/dinner... maybe some carrots or celery for snacks.

There's a couple halfway-decent-sounding recipe places online, but I dunno... put in how I also need to avoid high oxalates due to kidney stones, and that takes a lot of things off the table. :)

Having said that, I made a creamed corn casserole just last night... which granted has dairy and bread crumbs in it but eh. It's in the right direction. :)

Anyway, good luck with 2022!

I hadn't posted in a long while since moving to Oregon, so no worries.

As for breakfast, try poached eggs! I love 'em with a little salsa, although I do eat mine with a slice of buttered toast.

My first dog was a half cocker/half springer spaniel, smart as a whip, and obedient. This one is smart as a whip and as stubborn as my husband!

We're going to go on a modified keto diet, moving more towards fish and chicken versus my usual preferred beef. We placed an order with a seafood delivery company to kick things off, so we'll see how that goes.

Hope you're doing well!
