Finnan: We Fear No-one

Steve Finnan claims he and his teammates fear no one ahead of the CL draw.

The right-back admits anticipation was growing at Melwood as the Reds await their European fate.

However, Finnan believes confidence will be high whatever happens in Monaco at 5pm.

"Whoever we get it'll be tough because it's the Champions League, but we're one of the seeded teams and after our record in the last few years we don't need to fear anyone," the 31-year-old told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Everyone is aiming for the league this season but I think we've got a good chance in the Champions League as well. I think we've got a squad capable of competing in both.

"I'll try to watch the draw - though I'm not sure what time it is so we might be training. We'll all be looking out because there's always a lot of anticipation as to who you're going to get."

Finnan was among those rested during Tuesday night's qualifier against Toulouse - something he's not been too accustomed to during his four years at Anfield.

The defender is philosophical about such matters - and is even humble enough to insist he wasn't missed against Toulouse.

"Every player wants to play every game, but with the squad we've got you know you are going to be rested sometimes. I was left out on Tuesday but with the players we have now it doesn't seem to make any difference. We're winning a lot of games at the moment.

"You want to play a lot of games, but when you've got internationals as well, it's important to have a rest sometimes."

The Republic of Ireland international wasn't the only member of Liverpool's regular backline to miss out, with Jamie Carragher forced onto the sidelines with a broken rib.

Finnan is hopeful the Reds won't be without their vice-captain for too long.

"Carra is okay," he revealed. "He is obviously disappointed to miss out on any game, that's the way he is. Hopefully, with the international break coming up, he won't miss too many games for us - fingers crossed just a couple. He just needs to get some rest now."

Next up for the Reds is a home clash with newly promoted Derby. While some pundits would dare call it a home banker, the club's number three insists he and his teammates cannot afford to take anything for granted.

"It's been a good start for us and hopefully that will continue on Saturday," said Finnan. "We fully respect them because they are in the Premier League.

"Yes, we're at home, but sometimes these games can be tricky because they'll be focused and will probably get a lot of men behind the ball. We can't let that frustrate us.

"We've got good enough players to break teams down now, so if we play to our potential, hopefully we'll pick up the three points."
