So, I was able to participate in the recent "Sean Hannity's Freedom Concert" that came to Atlanta this past Tuesday. The radio station I work part-time at in Atlanta, "News/Talk 750 WSB" was the host radio station for this event. I will admit, I'm not a huge Sean Hannity fan. His show is often hard to listen to... but I wanted to be star struck for a day.
Yes, I wanted to be star struck... and wanted to impress my peers (which I did) and network in the process. My assignment was to shuttle people between the Arena and the Performing Arts Center (where Sean's show was held). Simple assignment. I became the shuttle person for Sean's very hot producer...(her name escapes me)... before I had to start shuttling folks, I was off-stage watching everyone file in to the PAC, and the man himself, Sean Hannity walks up and stands next to me, waiting for his introduction... Do I introduce myself? Do I try and shake his hand? I did neither, as he seem to be in a zone, but I was nice to be standing next to an icon to many (not mine)... anyways, the hot producer got me to go get Charlie Daniels from his bus and bring him to the PAC... yes, that Charlie Daniels! The legend himself came down to Georgia, and was sitting next to me in the front seat of a Chevy Venture. Wow! I made small talk with him, as the drive wasn't but a minute or so. I then took him back after his time on Hannity.
There was alot of down time... which was ok. I was hanging out with upper management of WSB. I also took time to introduce myself to syndicated radio hosts "Rick and Bubba", whom I have been a fan of. Very nice folks. They are hooking me up with a book and some cds... (since I told them I run their show on weekends on WSB). Later in the day I was able to shuttle them back to the Arena. Again, big time southern syndicated radio hosts are sitting next to me, and behind me. Wow!
Now, I didn't get a chance to meet, but was near Sean Hannity, Olie North, Fred Thompson, Lee Greenwood, Neal Boortz and Clark Howard. I wanted to introduce myself to Neal, since we are co-workers, but he seemed busy. Same goes for Clark Howard, but he was in a hurry, so no go. Since I work with Neal and Clark, I'll have lots of time to meet them. Oh, I was able to shake Troy Gentry's hand... and I heard he fell off the stage later that night! Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White was in the arena, but I didn't see them. Kinda disappointed I didn't get to see "Mator" and "Tater Salad". The nice thing was I had an all-access pass, so I was able to walk everywhere in the arena... which I did, as who knows when I will be able to do that ever again. One of the perks of working in broadcasting! I didn't see the show, as I had a great headache, and I would of had to stand the entire time...
Needless to say, this was a great night. I am still sore for the long times I was standing... and the equipment I had to break down and load into the van after the radio show.
It is nice to finally work for a station that is number one, and is a legend. I have a few things in the works at this time, and could maybe lead to bigger things... more to come!
