Nikki Bennett's good news!

Well everybody, in the last week, our lives have TOTALLY changed. And by totally, I mean 360 degrees!! But luckily it's all good (I hope!)

I have been offered and accepted a position at the Marine Corps Air Station in Iwakuni Japan. Not sure why I accepted it except everybody said I'd be nuts not to, and it was a chance of a lifetime. Iwakuni is supposed to be really nice.

It's a 36 month rotation (but we can opt for 5 years if we really like it.) To do this, I'm actually selling the farm, most of my horses (I'm keeping one--could never get rid of Trooper, so my sister-in-law is going to take care of him for me--she's getting saddled with my dogs too) and we probably won't see anybody for quite a while :(

I say probably because I EXPECT everybody I know to make a trip over to Japan in the next three years!! :) Now's a good time cause you can crash with us and save some money!! Iwakuni is on the mainland of Honshu, but it is on the opposite side from Tokyo. It's right under Hiroshima, so it's about 6 hours from Tokyo by bullet train. It's right on the sea, so there's lots of sea-type activities to do, plus all the cool local culture stuff in Hiroshima and Iwakuni itself.

Anyway, they are allowing me to get my foot surgery here first and recoup so we're not leaving until the end of November, starting of December. And the only thing they still have to barter with me on is the salary, so although this is pretty much a done deal, I still have some more wangling to do before it's all an absolute go.

The position is Water/Air Manager for the Air Station, so it should be interesting, and I'm really looking forward to it. Figure while we're there we can travel and get to most of the major countries out there (China, Phillipines, Australia, Korea, etc.) so it's really exciting. Hard part is giving up the horses and leaving all our friends and family. But we were due for a life change anyway. And I'm looking on this as an extended 3 year vacation (although I guess I'll have to work SOME while I'm out there! :)

It'll be tough not seeing everybody & missing out on all the family things, but we took the plunge and made the decision, so we're doing it!!! About time for some new experiences!!

Adedum from Steve:
So this means that all of you near & dear from past and present around us must come on over and get some stuff while you can!
Packing it all up or else heheheheh!
30 years worth of anime /manga/japan stuff here still in general.
All Iron Cat Items must go too!
Of course we want to see you all as much as possible too before we leave.
Big bonfire / going away party too perhaps shortly before we go.

Can't believe we are doing it, been coming across so many fun reminders of the good times we had at our home with so many of you over the years.
The barn buildings, anime hangouts, pissed off at Sept 11 with the IC crew, parties, sleep overs, jams and so forth... good memories in deed.
Those of you who could not make it down here to our home, well you were always welcome with us no matter where we were and shall always be.
Everybody keep in touch with us and come visit with us in japan too!!
Much love always and yes, I/we will be back in the states from time to time and at some events already!!
Time to make new ones now of course!
:)
Weeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaa!!!
