Close, so close.
I spent the morning waiting for a repairman, which is never fun. It took my mind away from my writing, but I am a stubborn man. I wish I could turn my worry muscle off enough to forget about things that are going on in life, but there would be a great danger of shutting myself off completely. I am far too comfortable in the realm of the imaginary.
I am very close to completing this manuscript, and yet further away than ever. I am at the point where I must jig and rejig with the chapter layout, and that takes a little more time than just straight writing. It becomes a bit of a two-step forward and three-step back procedure - and anyone who has ever seen me two-step knows that this is a very scary sight indeed.
The novel will probably stretch a little further than the 25000 words that I have been aiming for. That is all right by me, but it will play hob with my tracking system. I don't want to keep rejigging the word graph, but we will see how it goes.
The end is in sight and the book is coming together.
Tomorrow I start my first of a series of bookstore signings and I am also booked at several different schools over the next few weeks. At least seven or eight schools, so far - half day to full day visits. I am still waiting to hear from a couple more and there at least another half dozen that have booked me but haven't finalised any sort of date, so this will be a very busy school season for me - which helps to pay the bills.
I also have a book launch on Oct. 22 at the Dalhousie bookstore for CAMPUS CHILLS, and a day of signings followed by a night of storytelling and more signing at the Nocturne Festival on October 17.
All told, by November I will be ready for a little downtime - which probably will not arrive until December.
I love this life.
Here is today's tally.
24000 / 25000 words. 96% done!
Yours in storytelling,
Steve Vernon
