Let me list the things wot* have been frustrating me so far today.
1. I woke up late this morning (so late in fact, 'twas afternoon). This was because I set my alarm for a reasonable 10.30am, ready for getting in to work at 2pm. Waking up a few minutes before it was due to go off, I turned off my alarm. I then decided that since bed was so nice and warm that I would doze off to sleep again. Cue me getting woken up by the DIY drilling of the people down the road. At half past twelve. This gives me thirty minutes to wash, dress, feed and write up my personal statement for my PGCE before I had to scarper for work.
2. The GTTR (Graduate Teacher Training Registry) website is using new server equipment, and suffering downtime and timeouts like I have never seen before. This prevents me from logging it, let alone sending off my application. A minor recompense is that they have extended the deadline for applications because of this; Sunday, instead of tomorrow.
3. My WoW server has been down due to maintenance as well; preventing from me checking on those items I put in at the Auction House.
4. I burned my lunch. Something I haven't done in a very long while, especially not with something as straightforward as cheeseburgers. Didn't affect the taste much, just meant they were a bit too crunchy.
5. I found out I only had a twenty pound note in my wallet, far too big for the bus driver to reasonably accept as tender for a weekly pass (£12 in total). This naturally required a trip to the nearest cash point - fifteen minutes' walk away, in Cosham High Street. Setting off at 1pm, I was going to be lucky to get on a bus to get me in to work before two.
6. I wasn't that lucky. Waiting 'til twenty-five past at the freezing Health Centre bus stop meant that I was £10 up, but still without a bus. I had to get on the 23 (one of the buses from the rival bus company to the one I use), which meant a pass would not have been valid, so it was £1.40 to get a single to work. And I only just got there in time.
7. Entering the building would have been another feat of guile and ingenuity. Having not been in to work since the weekend, I wasn't wearing my denim jacket. That is to say, the jacket in which my entry pass was located. Luckily, I managed to sneak in with a huge crowd of credit card salespeople. I still feel annoyed that I will have to rely on the courtesy of others in this place for my comings and goings. Lunch will have to take place in the freezing kitchenette...
8. BitterRob (Systems Coach in work) just mentioned this instant that the call I took was one of the ones they've monitored for the new recruits. I am relieved that it was one of the few calls I've done where I helped the lovely friendly lady get broadband for her husband and children by merely changing username and password. I like the feeling of closure, but dislike the embarrassment caused by Rob coming up and grinning knowingly at me.
The point of all this frustration and embarrassment has got me pulling my beard out. Now I cannot compete properly with the other guys doing the Moustache Competition thing. Man, it makes me feel inadequate.
(* - Yes, I am aware this is not a proper word: it's either a nod towards the Hale 'n' Pace "Play Wot I Wrote" or simply indicative of the fact that I can't be arsed to uphold a suitable level of grammar.)
