liveblogging the election!

Nov 04, 2008 17:55

Welcome to the intersection where politics meets booze. Let's see how long I can make intelligent election comments until I descend into drunken incoherence and non sequiturs.

Tonight is brought to you by:
A 750 mil bottle of jim beam
A six pack of sierra nevada pale ale
A six pack of molson canadian (to keep it multi-cultural)
3 large cans of red bull
The coca cola company
and a one million dollar grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. (thanks guys!)

6:01 - Obama wins Vermont. McCain wins Kentucky. Big fuckin' shock. Total booze consumed - nothing, just a can of red bull.

6:44 - and still, nothing interesting has happened. The most interesting thing so far is that the senate race in KY is 50-50 with 25% reporting. If the dems can manage to pick up that seat, then they WILL get a 60 seat majority in the senate. 1/2 a beer consumed.

6:46 - Is it just me, or is wolf blitzer sans beard really, really creepy?

7:02 - An assload of states got called by cnn. None of them were expected to be close. I don't want to use the phrase "low hanging fruit"....eh fuck it, both candidates just got all of the low hanging fruit. McCain 34 electoral votes, Obama 77. Now the fun begins.

7:09 - Final estimate: 311 Obama, 226 mccain. I made that call like a month ago, and the numbers have gotten closer in a lot of states, but I still really comfortable with that prediction.

7:13 - Jesus. Fucking. Christ. Cnn right now is live with both reporters at the obama party and the mccain party. The obama people are freaking out and going crazy....and over at the mccain party, there is a fucking boys choir in lil suits dressed up and singing. what. the. fuck. republicans really don't know how to have a good time.

7:18 - Bad numbers out of KY in the senate race. It looks like McConnell, the senate minority leader of the Assclown Party, will win reelection. shit.

7:25 - democrats pick up the first senate seat of the night in north carolina. bye bye, elizabeth dole. and msnbc calls penn and NH for obama? seems a little early for that, but that would be the beginning of the end if true.

7:29 - Shaheen wins the senate seat in NH, giving dems the second senate seat of the night.

7:30 - I forgot about warner winning in virginia. +3 senate seats for the democrats. 1.5 beers down.

8:00 - No real surprises so far. Obama wins new york, michigan, and minnesota. penn and new hampshire are the only real swing states that have been called, but everyone knew those would probably go obama. north dakota got called for mccain. that bummed me out, but it's not a surprise. it's only a minor swing state and a long shot for obama, but it would be nice to see a state that voted for bush by a large margin swing to the democrats. two and a half beers down, and I'm still 100% aware. I'm heading out to head over to skips to watch this shit with some associates of mine. (dont forget that you can't spell associates without ASS)

8:05 - New mexico senate seat called for the dems. +4. woot.

8:12 - Mccain wins georgia. See north dakota.

10:04 - And obama wins. wow. I have absolutely nothing to add. five beers down!

3:21 - back home, drunk, happy. landslide. I was way off with my prediction. Praise jesus. I'm still looking at the final few senate races. Deuce!
