I have recently discovered an amusing battle-scene painting by modern Russian artist
Nikolai Kopeikin called "Battle of the Worlds" ("Война миров"). Basically it depicts characters from Russian fairy tales and Soviet Soyuzmultfilm era fighting their direct prototypes or close resemblances from the West.
At first sight it seems that the battle goes well for the Warsaw pact creatures. The only character they've lost so far is Crocodile Gena (if of course half-choked Bart Simpson doesn't count). Gena's cruel death is depicted on the foreground. Otherwise the Soviets are dominating the battlefield. The wolf has already dealt with Jerry and his alter ego Tom is next. Surprisingly there is no Hair to be seen. Gromozeka is about to finish the robot from Futurama cartoon and only someone else's saber prevents him from doing so. Shrek will pay for Gena's murder for sure: Dvoe-iz-Lartsa are marching towards him from the right while the bear, approaching from the left, is about to crack Shrek's missgeburt skull open with vershki-i-koreshki. Even the famous weakling Pyatachok is victorious. Instead of fighting his Disney clone he quite uncompromisingly shot him with a gun. Kashei Bessmertnyi is depicted as a leader of folklore and Soyuzmultfilm coalition. He is giving orders from the midst of the battle.
However, the final outcome is rather uncertain. Not only is Walt Disney shamelessly using genomed creatures of a superior power like the above mentioned Shrek or Joda and Ninja Turtles running to his rescue, but also technological advancement of Disney's ally Holywood is clearly seen. I am not entirely sure if the Swedish comrade Karlson will be able to bounce Superman hard enough, or if ancient Zmej Gorynych equipped only with Greek fire will stop Lucas's spaceship with Darth Vader onboard.
As a kid I often thought about such nonsense as for instance a battle between monstres from "Doom" and the Nazis from "Wolfenstein"; animals from Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras; a tiger and a lion, whatever... Who do you think will win on this particular painting?
And yet one more question. Does anyone know any other paintings, theatrical plays or stories where mythological creatures from parallel worlds would fight each other? I can only reckon the
"Frog-mouse war" and so-called
Battle of the Fairy Tales where Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty fought for the hand of the Prince.
P.S. Yes, I know. It's been raining in London for days. What else do you expect me to do?
