Sakura didn't have to visit that girl in the hospital anymore. Aya had returned safely from whatever ordeal he had gone through, although she had yet to give back that safety despoit key. In fact, they had not met once since that night when she had found him at her bedroom window. To Sakura, it felt like they were both trying their hardest to avoid each other. She did really want to see him again, but she got an uncomfortable feeling in her gut every time she thought of him.
"What should I do…?" Sakura wondered aloud as she gently touched the comatose girl's face. "I want to see him…" She sighed and then stood up and headed for the exit. She paused for a moment, glanced back at the girl in the bed, and then left the hospital room.
It was a long hallway, and it probably felt longer due to Sakura's current state of mind. Lost in thought, she didn't see the dark-haired woman wearing large sunglasses in front of her. Her forehead bumped against the woman's chest and the woman grabbed Sakura's shoulders to balance herself.
"Watch where you're going," the woman snapped in a quiet voice.
"Sorry, sorry," Sakura mumbled, her face averted from the woman's.
The woman looked toward the room Sakura had just left. "Are you visiting a friend?" the woman asked.
Sakura bit her lower lip. Her heart began beating faster, and she felt tears beginning to form in her eyes. "I think I owe her," she whispered. Even through the sunglasses, she could feel the woman's piercing gaze upon her.
"I'll end up breaking your heart then," the woman said, gently touching Sakura's cheek. She leaned over and lightly kissed Sakura's forehead. She then brushed past the younger girl and continued down the hallway. Sakura didn't look behind her to see which room that woman was going to enter, if any.
"Damn it…" Sakura swore under her breath. She began walking again, and when she made it to the elevator, she stepped inside and pressed the "1F" button. She was alone in the elevator, and the descent felt like one into hell. Slowly and surely it fell further and further. When the elevator stopped and the doors opened again, she saw Aya standing outside it.
"Aya-san-!" Sakura started to say, walking out of the elevator, but before she could say anything else, he brushed past her to get into the elevator. Sakura turned to face him, but the doors had already closed.
She could no longer hold her tears back. She really did only fall for the quiet ones who would break her heart.
