On the Importance of Being True...As Well As a Gentleman...

Oct 06, 2003 06:49

The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble ( Read more... )

there are so many things that I promised to change within myself to be a proper 'lady' but I've also slacked in some areas.... I always joke about "Hey I'm a LADY" Lol.....but anyway..self evolution is a wonderful thing....but it appears that you were doing pretty good prior to revisiting this passage...*shrug* perhaps I dont know you well enough but you seem to come off as a true gentleman regardless of the areas you feel you lack this gentleman like quality...

In the last almost 10 months I've done some MEGA self evaluation, self evolving the whole nine yards..my progress has happened in record time...and wow..for that I'm thankful....I've never been happier......

sorry for the ramble :)

Prof, I have always considered you a true gentleman. Now if the rest of the girlies discover this, I may be forced to beat them off with sticks! Oh that wouldn't be very lady like of me. LOL Let's have tea!

If you are going to quote the Sigma Alpha Epsilon creed, let me give you an earlier example from Robert E. Lee.

"The forbearing use of power does not only form a touchstone, but the manner in which an individual enjoys certain advantages over others is a test of a true gentleman.

"The power which the strong have over the weak, the employer over the employed, the educated over the unlettered, the experienced over the confiding, even the clever over the silly - the forbearing or inoffensive use of all this power or authority, or a total abstinence from it when the case admits it, will show the gentleman in a plain light.

"The gentleman does not needlessly and unnecessarily remind an offender of a wrong he may have committed against him. He cannot only forgive, he can forget; and he strives for that nobleness of self and mildness of character which impart sufficient strength to let the past be but the past. A true man of honor feels humbled himself when he cannot help humbling others."

Robert E. Lee is considered the spiritual founder of the Kappa Alpha Order- a group I had much fondness for in my college years. I'm a reformed USC sorority girl- did you have a fraternal weakness?
