Oh, Canada - I stand on guard for THIS?

In which I continue with much outrage & lenthly tirades about several political figures.
The thing about this is, while the 2nd apology was absolutely rehearsed, I don't even think his words are the most disgusting thing (although his, along with every other comment on that tape, especially concerning unions, Roy Romanow, and Lynda Haverstock, are about as low as you can get). What is disgusting is that while he made this apology TODAY, after it was already out, and the outcry had already started, yesterday, his even more half hearted apology (made complete by his typical Tory dissappearing act from all members of the media) was accepted by our PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE as enough to excuse Mr. Lukiwski's comments, and that it was, and I fucking quote, "a closed issue" . I'm not saying that the guy should've been fired for something he said 18 years ago, because people can change, and maybe he has, and maybe he'll do a great job in his riding & elsewhere (he's admittedly better than their previous MP, because unless we're going back to the Stone Age, let's keep sex between consenting adults legal, no matter their gender, mmkay?). But for the leader of our country to say "oh, that was 18 years ago, he's a good guy now, he said he was sorry"? That disgusts me as a Canadian citizen. Don Imus was a fucking TALK SHOW HOST, and what he said became national news?!?!!?!!!!? This, apparently, is nothing more than a blip on the radar.
What happened to having political leaders who were better educated and held to a higher moral standard than the rest of us? What the fuck happened to integrity? I guess this is why Mr. Harper doesn't let his MPs get in front of a mic without their speechwriters.
Although thank God for this. I'd like to get first shot at the pieces of slime who decided this idiot needed a "second chance". Still disturbs me how much "back room" influence he'll still have, though.
Shame on Danny Williams, as well, for finally seeming like someone who we could look to as a turn against the old guard of politics. Now, with all of this information on the cancer inquiries coming to light? Turns out he's just the same shit with a different smell.
In conclusion, it brings me to my knees to think that anyone can still think that way, and say these things, let alone our government leaders. And my Dad wanted us to move to Saskatchewan. Fat fucking chance.
