As far as how music effects people, it all depends on the person and their own mental state of mind. I've always been very aware of how music effects me as I am very passionate about it and have very eclectic taste; something for every mood. I do think that music and violence can be connected, as I've mentioned in my own blog, people have various forms of music that they may hate and get annoyed with, and depending on their mental state of mind may lead them to acts of violence. Violent song lyrics and melodies can also have violent effects on someone also depending on their state of mind. As for myself, there are definitely musicians who I despise, and when I hear them do feel anger as well as annoyance, but I have never gone as far as to wanting to create any act of violence.
