Owwwww!!!

If you guys were wondering what rock I disappeared under last week, here's your answer. I was going down to Memphis with my husband and we make the 500+ mile, interstate drive with no problems. Then we get into an accident during a 15 mile drive in the city

Here's what happened: the day of the accident, it was solid rain, from morning to night. We were driving along the interstate at night, when another driver tries to pull into our lane...with our car still in the lane. My husband swerves so the guy doesn't hit us, and since the roads are so slick, the car lost its traction and went skidding across 4 lanes of traffic. By some miracle, no one else hit us, but since we'd been going about 60 when the car started skidding, the car had a good speed going. It smashed into the concrete divider, spun around 180 degrees, then crashed against the divider again, before finally stopping. Luckily, it ended up on the shoulder, since it was facing oncoming traffic.

That has to be one of the most frightening things I've ever been through. If both of us hadn't been wearing seat belts, one or both of us could have been killed, quite easily.

As it is, we got checked out by the ER and were pronounced OK. We both have sore necks and I'm going to be bruised up for a while (head and side hit the car door on impact), but since the car is totaled, that's not so bad.

Getting back from Memphis with no car was a lot of fun. Rental car places don't like renting out cars across state lines and flights were crazy expensive.

The thing that really pisses me off about this - well, 2 things, really. The first is that the other driver didn't stop or stay around. According to a witness, a car that may have been the other driver stopped a little further down the road, then the driver got out, looked back at us, and drove off. If that was the driver, my guess is that he checked to make sure no one was dead, and then decided he didn't want to get into trouble. The other part is that the police keep telling us that since the guy didn't hit us, we're at fault for causing the accident. I asked him if we were supposed to let the other driver hit us, and the police officer answers that if we'd let him hit us, then we'd be better off, because it would be the other driver's fault. So trying to avoid an accident leaves you worse off than letting someone else hit you? HONESTLY!?!?!
