modern day love and the contemporary sypnosis of human need (pt 2)

The perpetual pursuit of love, when practiced by adults instead of adolescents, can lead to something worse than mere heartbreak: it can lead to enduring heartbreak. High school love has become so dismissable in our cultures mind that when that love forms, it is automatically over. yet it is ultimately the most important love of our life. it conditions us for future ventures, gives us the load capacity of our hearts, and in our adult hood it becomes something to find humor about. our perspective of love changes so dramatically from prom to bar outings that its like two different species experiencing the act. in our youth, we quickly learn of betrayal, abandonment, and the ephemeral nature of love. What causes us to cheat? what causes others to cheat on us? a relationship can last years without a sign of betrayal and, almost suddenly and other worldly, the infidelity is committed. what does this do to our general idea of how love and life long commitment is supposed to be? it bucks the common idea that relationships deepen over time, when instead, many couples tire of each other and restlessly seek out new terrain. but grappling with the difficulty of lasting love, especially when the partners involved are interested foremost in their own gratification, will only lead to more 'heart break'.
