It's possible that my opinion of Cedar Rapids is colored by the freakin' 150 miles of pouring rain I drove through to get here but seriously, SO MUCH CORN AND GENERAL TERRIBLENESS

It's cool, I'm a Washington State transplant, and summer storms here are pretty much exactly as you've described. I applaud you for surviving rain-driving. :P

Most recently, I lived in Spokane for about five years; before that, the Tri-Cities, Tacoma, etc. Seattle's awesome, but I spent most of my time in the eastern half of the state. Also, shortest explanation for "WHY IOWA?": I moved here to be with my wife. :)

Aha, that is probably the only good answer to WHY IOWA.

I guess Eastern Washington to the Midwest isn't as much of a stretch, though, geography-wise. I am just like, DEAR GOD GIVE ME MOUNTAINS-- WATER-- SOMETHING THAT ISN'T FLAT AND YELLOWISH D:

I admit, we visited Boston this past summer to see the wife's family, and cried a little when we saw actual bodies of water.
