Bush and aids

Nov 04, 2005 22:56

I watched a program on aids on pbs, and found out that everyone was pissed at clinton b/c he pledged to spend on this money on global aids, and didn't. The same happened with bush, until recently. I didn't really follow politics until bush was re-elected, so this was mainly news to me. Here's a qoute i found from pbs.org...

"I ask the Congress to commit $15 billion over the next five years, including nearly $10 billion in new money, to turn the tide against AIDS in the most afflicted nations of Africa and the Caribbean." - President George W. Bush, January 28, 2003

It's about fucking time! But, my point is this. Is this actually going to happen? I don't know if this means it's on it's way, or that thats what he wants, or that it needs to be voted on, etc. etc. Also, while watching this program, i found out that the virus is being spread b/c women are being faithful whereas the men are not. In mariages. Apparently in many of these countries, it's ok, or at least it happens a lot, that the man in the marriage cheats. They followed this one family from uguanda, and asked the woman how many people she's slept with in the past year, and she had been faitful...forever. They asked her husband, and he said over 4 within the past year. Now, i understand different cultures and all that good stuff, but if your country has a problem with aids...i mean, c'mon. You don't even need to be incredibly educated to think that it's a bad idea to sleep with a bunch of people who's sexual histories you don't know. And there's all this money going to try to teach them these things. I don't really have an answer or an anger point here, i'm just...confused I guess. I dunno...

Oh yea, i'm gonna be watching to see how much is spent on aids, and hopefully the 15 bil actually goes.
