I have watched
Repo: The Genetic Opera.
And I still don't know what to think.
It's...odd. I like some of its parts very much. I think some of its parts are too icky and callously brutal. And I think some of its parts don't make much structural sense. Two thirds of the way in, I saw the clear foundations for a tremendous resolution...and then the script walked away from it in favor of something rather anti-climactic and fairly depressing. No one really took action to settle things...things just sorta fell apart. Which might be a nihilistic perspective, but one that's immediately contradicted by the finale's optimistic lyrics.
In some ways, the plot played out like George R.R. Martin's
A Game of Thrones, where the grand designs of the previous generation crumble through the workings of fate and incapacity. But I don't feel that Repo makes the idea work. I not sure where the differences lie.
Very strange.
