Hello everyone,
I hope everyone has had a nice couple of days. In the time that has passed since I have last posted I have traveled to Manchester, the second largest city in England, I got very homesick and sad, but was able to be rational and got better, it has rained and I watched a movie that made me very very cold!
I went to Manchester, we didn't leave as early as we should have and I had to get back early to see a show, which left not enough time to really see the city. It's only an hour and a half train ride from town, which is about a twenty minute bus ride. (I went with Lucy, my aussie next door neighbour, two really nice girls from Canada, Laurie and Amanda and Johanna a girl from Indiana.) We went to the art gallery, which was phenominal, one of my favorite museums ever. It was huge and well organized. It had art ranging from Impressionists, classical greek and crazy contemporary. We went so quickly that I have to go back just to go to the museum. I enjoy the fact that I can fall in love with cities when I have only been there for a few hours or a day. It reminded me of Glasgow, another former industrial city, and even though it rained it was wonderful! It also has a huge shopping district with a store called Primer, which is kind of like Ross and Mervyns, except better organized (all the same clothes are together), and better quality. And the stuff was really resonoble. Because I decided not to bring a map, which was a stupid idea, Lucy and I had no clue how to get back to the Train station, so we wound up missing our train by 5 minutes. grrr...so I missed the show, but Lucy wasn't late to work.
what happened next? oh yes! I got really sad for a day and it was bad. I cried, a lot...But I was able to get through it and I am still happy to be here, even though I miss (in no particular order) my car, my friends, my computer, my family, and knowing where I am going. And I'm missing the baby racoons that live in the storm drain grow up...:(
I think I am adjusting to this English Weather. It rains every day (at least for a little bit), is cloudy everyday and most days it is windy. But I am layering and I am not cold anymore. More about weather, I watched "the day after tomorrow", at the uni cinema because I needed to see a terrible blockbuster and well, I don't need to see another one for a long time. Generally, there is this really bad storm, and it causes everything to be covered with snow and be freezing, and all the characters are freezing. Which causes me to zip up my big winter coat, and feel cold like the characters do...what a wierd movie!
Let me just say that I love my theatre classes and I am so glad that I am taking the ones that I am taking. I'm learning about all these really awesome contemporary british female playwrights and about feminism, something I've wanted to study for a while but not really had the opportunity. OH if any of you recent theatre graduates think that you have not had a good theory classes we have. In my Avant-garde class, he has already mentioned at least three people that I have already studied and confirmed what I already know.
Quinn...this will make you happy! Every Sunday they have a pub quiz here, where you break up into teams and have four rounds of questions, Movies&Entertainment, Sport, Songs(where you have to know the artist and track title) and general knowledge. Most of the questions are English centric...but last week my team won the quiz! And the week before with only three people we came in third. ahh the joys of answering obscure questions!
Um...does anyone want any info from me that they don't have? Miss you all lots!
