lanikai

it's been a while since i've had a whole-heartedly good night. I had one tonight. I arrived in Lanikai after a 15 hour flight to a warm smile and a familiar jeep. The ride was invigorating, despite the dark clouds and rain. The carved out mountains evoked a feeling of serenity as we drove. Once in Lanikai, we were abruptly stopped as Obama's motorcade passed through. I was merely feet from our president. I smiled with a profound respect.

Once in Tim's apartment on the beach I was greeted warmly by his friends. I divided my time between the beach and the apartment. My toes first hit the sand after a walk down the path -- anticipation built and a smile spread across my face as the beach grew nearer. I saw the Moks -- I had forgotten how stunning they were, especially under a blue moon. I stared in awe at their presence and felt pure happiness spread throughout my body. As midnight approached, we decided to bring champagne to the beach. We popped the corks and toasted to the new year. Then we boarded a six man canoe and rode out to the Moks for a midnight cruise. Tom played the ukulele as we paddled. We surfed waves and I dipped my fingers into the turquoise water. I took mental snapshots, not wanting to forget a single second. This is the most amazing new years I've ever had. So this is the new year, and I do feel different. I feel refreshed, and inspired to make my own happiness. Part of this, I believe, is a change. This change will come in the form of a big move. A move across the pacific. There is no other place like this, and this is where I want to be.
