So. A little before noon I get a call at work, from Jane. It seems Alastair collapsed today.
He was off school because he'd had an attack of diarrhea last night, but Jane had stuff to do herself. Also, when I left for work Alastair seemed pretty much OK in himself. So, Alastair went along as she did stuff like visit the doctor, go to the bank ... but in Tesco he complained of feeling sick and fuzzy and suddenly was unable to hold himself upright and was not (says I with the benefit of a one-day first aid course) what you would call conscious in terms of the responses he was giving.
There was drama as staff with first aid skills were sought, a wheelchair was rushed on scene, Alastair was lifted into it (he was unable to get in it himself). He was taken to the cafe area, and given something to drink - and he started to perk a little when this happened. He still had to be wheeled to the car. Jane took him home and phoned the doctor, who advised us to keep an eye on him and bring him in if he went downhill. Fortunately he's only gone uphill since then, although he's still a rather subdued, shaken boy.
I don't think he's going to school tomorrow, either ...
