'Tis a splendid time for a life update.
I went on a trip with Tim to Houston Friday-Wednesday to see my friend, Matt. He's doing a co-op at Exxon for a semester. I'd say it was one of the best vacations I've had in quite a long time, though I've never eaten out so much in my life. We must've eaten out at least 8 times within the 4 1/2 days we were there. All the food was good except for one crappy seafood meal. Dear restaurant with outdoor live music gimmick- fried imitation crab meat does not constitute as a part of any seafood platter.
I'd like to live in Texas simply because of my racist ways. At least Mexicans work. Also, the traffic in Texas is not a problem, as they are proactive about the situation, making enough lanes to fit a population. I was grateful to be moving during rush hour traffic.
Here's a short summary of our activities on the trip-
Friday:
-Left Baton Rouge at 2pm and arrived at Matt's apt. at 6pm.
-Winded down, had some drinks, went out to eat, then worked on a puzzle of the beatles.
Saturday:
-Woke up at 8am, had some coffee and finished that damned puzzle.
-Went out for lunch, then we went to the crappy Galveston beach and hung out.
-Went out for dinner, then hung out at the apartment.
Sunday:
-Woke up at 8:30am, coffee time.
-Out for lunch...
Man, my mind is hazy. We went to the Kemah Boardwalk to eat dinner, I played a game and won a stuffed gorilla for Jenna (That's right carnies, I can win your games.), and we played poker I believe.
Monday:
-Tim and I went to the Galleria in Houston.
Tuesday:
-We all went sailing, and Tim and I departed Wednesday morning.
Hmm, we did a lot more than that, but I don't remember much. It was a very very relaxing trip.
Work update-
Online Reporter:
When I returned from my trip, nothing had been done with my section, which made me feel awesome and important. I love having my own desk and computer and being the only writer besides the owner and editor. I definitely have a sweet gig going, and it's building my confidence as a writer.
This job is like a combination of technical writing and journalism, so the titles can be interchangeable on a resume. Yep, I believe I am officially the only English major with realistic goals (well, except for Jason).
Tiger Weekly:
Same old stuff, cranking out the tech articles and doing an editorial every now and then. An editorial/rant from me is like a treat for my fans because my caustic wit is savory and meant only for important matters, and I'll keep telling myself that.
A couple of people have asked me if I felt like Tiger Weekly was holding me back now that I've ventured into more professional writing, but I say no. My Tiger Weekly writing is what got me here, so cutting ties with them would be the last thing I'd want to do, not with the position I have now. Besides, what if an even more important publication owner picked up one of my TW articles one day?
Spring Break is pretty much over. Time to get back into reality. I have 2 weeks to finish writing a novel, and that makes me sad.
