Precinct 932 was a motley bunch. There were about 25 folks from our little neck of the woods ready to vote. I met two of our neighbors in our condo complex (the mom worked at a non-profit Jewish arts museum and the daughter is wanting to go to college for opera, how Dem is that? lol.) Obama is receiving my support mostly because he is more liberal than Clinton. I feel like the "Clinton Legacy" has turned its back on the gay population. Well, more like "used us for our vote," then forgot about us. Remember when Billy said he was going to get rid of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" with the stroke of a pen? I'm still waiting for that to happen. And don't get me started on DOMA...
I do believe, however, that Hillary is more liberal when it comes to those things. But I don't think she has the spine to do what's right. That's been obviously clear with her first failed attempt with healthcare, her "flip a coin" stance on Iraq/Iran, and her pandering when it comes to the Patriot Act. Hillary pretends to care about everyone, but really she's just been caring about herself ever since she got into Congress. And what's funny is that it seems Obama has more friends in the Senate that Hillary. The reason: he doesn't pick stupid little fights for the sake of "being liberal." Clinton goes negative too often when dealing with fellow senators, and it's not working. We need someone who can slip quietly through the back door (the way most legislation works, anyway) and bring real change to the process. I'm not saying that Obama is going to change the world or anything, but I think he has a better chance of advancing the Democratic Party's platform. And that is why he received my vote last night. (It didn't hurt that we talked about MLK in my Race & Gender class yesterday, either.)
