OK, I don't really put much stock into those "You saved X amount of dollars today at (insert grocery store) today!" things at the end of your receipt, but today they made me feel really good about my shopping ability.
Today, Josh and I went to 3 grocery stores for our big ol' shop-a-thon. We went to Albertson's (which is like a mix of Publix and Kroger), Sunflower Market (think farmer's market meets Trader Joe's), and then King Sooper's (Colorado's version of Kroger).
We got the sale bills yesterday in the mail, so I went through all of them and picked out the sale items that we needed, looked on Google Maps as to where the stores were located and decided the order in which we would visit the stores. Then we set out for our grocery adventure and bent over the stores and had our way with them.
King Sooper's: Total Spent = $36.95. (I saved $16.55 today!)
Sunflower Market: Total Spent = $50.38 (I saved $22.66 today!)
Albertson's: Total Spent = $41.93 (I saved $53.74 today!)
WTF? $53.74 in savings? How high do they mark up their prices?! Then I noticed that it wasn't high prices, it was just really good and cheap shopping. We bought four boxes of Kellogs cereals for $1 each with the coupons that we offered in the ad. Red Baron Pizza was 4/$10, normally they're like five bucks each. Chicken breasts, which are normally $3.49/lb, were $1.88/lb. And the 5-pack of Kraft Mac & Cheese (shut up, it's a guilty pleasure) was only two bucks. So we bought two. Even the cashier was impressed with the prices.
So I may have spent $129.36 today, but I saved $92.95 today! Just think of the savings!
But, still, I think my mother would be proud. :)
