Politico: Roberts & Walken

Aug 17, 2005 18:14

Here's a nice little article courtesy of the Washington Post that lets you read excerpts from memos John Roberts wrote while serving in the Reagan White House. I like what I'm seeing so far. He better not pull a Souter and screw us over.

Here's my favorite of the excerpts:

"My own view is that creation of a new tier of judicial review is a terrible idea. . . . The fault lies with the Justices . . ., who unnecessarily take too many cases and issue opinions so confusing that they often do not even resolve the question presented. If the Justices truly think they are overworked, the cure lies close at hand . . . . So long as the court views itself as ultimately responsible for governing all aspects of our society, it will, . . . be overworked. A new court will not solve this problem."

Ha, and courtesy of the IMDb, a report about Christopher Walken running for president in '08:

Actor Christopher Walken is caught in the midst of reports he plans to vie for the role of US president. While the eccentric screen star plays a member of the White House in the hit comedy Wedding Crashers, rumors have been circulating that he is aiming to take over George W. Bush's job in 2008. A website for Walken's "campaign" has even been set up at Walken2008.com, but a representative for the actor insists the story is false, stating, "It's one-hundred per cent not true. (It) sounds like someone got a little too excited over his role as Secretary Of The Treasury in Wedding Crashers and now they want to make him president."
