Princess has been on one dose (5mg?) of steroids a week for a month or so now.
She's been a bit tetchy towards the end of each week, but now she's broken through the skin and torn out more fur after only 3-4 days. First step: trim her nails. Actually, I get ahead of myself. Step 1: Find a rugby team to immobilise her. Step 2: Attempt to trim her back claws.
The impending end to her special hypo-allergenic cat food supply got me out to the vet today, where I discovered that there was no hypo-allergenic cat food to be had, and they didn't know when the next shipment was due. Apparently it's very popular, and demand has outstripped supply.
It's cat food - of course demand is going to outstrip supply. I bet demand pole dances better than supply too.
The alternative is a low-allergen (but not quite hypoallergenic) crunchie made of rice and whiting. For a while there I thought the vet was suggesting that I prepare actual rice and fish from scratch, and so help me I would have done it too. Unlike my food I could at least make up big batches and freeze them, but I must say I'm glad I haven't crossed into that particular Mad Cat Lady place.
