So the Avengers are the Animorphs. Think about it.
Steve/Captain America = Jake The "fearless leader." He hates that he has to make the calls that wind up hurting the people he cares about, but everyone wants him it to be him, because he stays cool and collected, he's more mature than them, and he's just generally a really good guy, the kind of guy who stops bullies from giving guys like Tobias (or Bruce?) swirlies in school bathrooms.
Tony/Iron Man = Marco The wise-cracking, ego-toting, pragmatic, clever and sometimes ruthlessly calculating one, aaand the computer geek. Seems shallow on the surface, but there's a lot to him... (Marco was probably my least favorite but I will have to reexamine that now that I have compared him to Tony, who is my favorite.)*
Bruce/Hulk = Tobias The troubled, philosophical loner guy who experiences the whole superhero thing as more of a burden/curse than the others. Frequently retreats into isolation, fears the total loss of his humanity...
Natasha/Black Widow = Rachael The hot bitch you never want to mess with. Her biggest fear may actually be herself and uh, basically how murderous she can be and/or has been. (Natasha: "I've got red in my ledger.")
Clint/Hawkeye = ...Cassie? The... quiet, compassionate one? Okay, this one doesn't work as beautifully as the others, and honestly I don't actually have a clear enough sense of Clint's character to say whether this is at all an accurate description of him... But hey, Cassie and Clint were both the only members of their respective teams to experience being mind-controlled by their alien enemy(ies)! (I think?) And Clint and Natasha are best friends and Cassie and Rachel are best friends!
On the other hand, I can definitely see switching Clint and Bruce, i.e., Clint=Tobias and Bruce=Cassie... After all, Tobias is a hawk, and, at the beginning of The Avengers, Bruce is caring for the sick in Calcutta, which is definitely something Cassie would do. Also, she is totally a vet-in-training, which is kind of like being a super-genius scientist who specializes in biology and gamma radiation... Um, doesn't she perform brain surgery on Ax in one book?? Am I remembering that right?
Thor = "Ax" Aximilli-Esgarrouth-Isthil The very noble and very silly alien, who gets stranded on Earth and befriends the humans and their cause because he feels responsible, in a way, for the bad guys even being there. They also both love cinnabons (at least, I assume Thor would love them if he tried them).
Aaand both stories involve a mysterious blue box with magical alien powers!
This connection has inspired sudden, tremendous nostalgia and affection for the series in me, so
I am going to link you to to
a very lovely Animorphs fancast** now... (The actual cast on the Nickelodeon show left something to be desired, I thought. And quite frankly, so did the whole show. But I still remember how excited me and my friend Molly were the night it premiered -- and the days leading up to it. There was this super-90s website for it, building anticipation, iirc... She stayed over at my house the night of the premiere, I think. We were 10, maybe 11 (12? 9? idk that whole era was just a happy blur), and so fucking pumped.) Here, have some
fanart I just discovered, and some
more, and maybe just one
last one. Thanks.
Also, have an amazing Avengers ensemble fanvid:

*Pee. Ess. Marco was the one who came up with the name "Animorphs" just like Tony apparently coined the name "Avengers."

Found another awesome fancasting. This might... become a thing for me... Again, I mean.
