Rainy Days and Cheese Days

This weekend was awful.

Anyone who knows me knows I am not much of a complainer. Rarely do I say things like, "I'm having such a bad day." A bad day is your fault. Some bad things can happen to you in a day, but it's up to you to make it a bad day or a good day. That being said, this weekend was one of the few times in my life I couldn't make it happen. Every time I'd think of someway to salvage it, it'd fall apart.

Nathan is much like myself, a firm believer that life is what you make it, and you can be controlled by the things that happen to you, or you can control how you feel. However, this weekend was too much for him too. And the worst part is, nothing even that bad really happened. I guess it's good that we've had a ton of really good weekends and even weeks leading up to this. It had to happen sometime when we'd have a not so fun schedule.

He had a rough night on Friday, so he was hung over all day on Saturday and didn't want to do much of anything. I, on the other hand, had stayed in on Friday night since I was too hung over from Thursday to go out and was getting cabin fever. Plus it was rainy so that wasn't conducive to doing much of anything. We went and ran some errands for a few hours on Saturday afternoon, and I ran to the pharmacy on Sunday real quick, but otherwise we were in the house the whole weekend, and not because we really wanted to be. It was bad. I found myself being cranky, irritable, and annoyed.

It's also extra annoying because we have a tight budget for fun stuff. The fun stuff money always seems to go the fastest, and by the time we get to the last few days before payday, we're out of fun money.

Anyway, so even though we decided we couldn't save this weekend, we knew we could save the one coming up. We rented a car for early Saturday morning. We are going to drive 2 and a half hours to Monroe, Wisconsin for Cheese Days! My grandparents were both born and raised there, before moving to Chicago at 17 and 18 years old. It's this little Swiss-American town that RULES! Every 2 years they have a 3-day cheese festival! I've only been to Monroe a few times in my life, at least once for a family reunion, but never for Cheese Days!! My dad swears he knows the Cheese Days song by heart even though he hasn't heard it in 30 years. He sang it for me, and I went on the internet to listen to it, and by golly he did still know it.

We wanted to stay overnight, but the hotels are booked about 2 years in advance (we're making reservations for 2010 while we're there), so we're going to stay in Madison overnight. Why? Why not! It's about an hour away, and we're staying at one of the nicer hotels in Madison so we can soak in the deep tub. Maybe we'll walk around and laugh at drunk UW undergrads...the sky's the limit...or at least the Madison sky!! On Sunday we were thinking of doing something lame and touristy, like going to the House on the Rock, or even maybe just going to Milwaukee. We love Milwaukee. Why? I don't know.

We don't have to return the car until late in the evening on Sunday, in case we decide to take streets back from Milwaukee instead of the highway. Oh yes, we did that once, it took about 5 hours, but it was worth it. If we don't go to Milwaukee, we'll most likely just stick to the highway back from the Madison area.

Sure, this might waste all our fun money for this next pay period, but it'll be worth it!! I can't wait.
