Evening cocktail

Mar 30, 2009 01:04

Home from work, and an hour at the gym.

Had a beautiful orange the size of a grapefruit with a nice salad of organic baby greens with daikon radish, feta, flax and sunflower seeds and half a turkey sandwich on organic whole grain bread. Yum.

The hot shower was good.

After a day of 60mph winds heaving dust and pollen across the city, the neti pot was better.

Watching "Taboo" on National Geographic. It's an episode on initiation rituals, including body suspension, and an amazonian tribal coming of age ceremony, where young men wear "ant gloves" full of ants who's bite injects a neurotoxin and has been likened to the pain of a bullet wound. The bullet ants are sedated and then woven in to the gloves. Two hours later, the ants are none too happy. They wear the gloves, festooned with macaw feathers for 10 minutes at a time. The bite of this ant is considered the most painful of any insect, 30 times more painful than a bee sting. They must undergo this rite 20 times before they're considered men. Only then are they allowed to hunt and marry. The tribe's shaman, the wife of the chief, assists in the preparations for the rite. The pain from the bites can last for 24 hours and can kill. Later, the women and men of the tribe, from small children on up, all dance together with linked hands. It's believed that the touch of the women eases the pain of the bites.

Wow.

Drinking a cup of dandelion tea, along with my evening cocktail of vitamins, herbs, and helpful chemicals.

In the mix tonight:

Multi vitamin
Calcium with vitamin D
Selenium
Vitamin E
Iron
Zinc
Glucosamine
Chondroitin
Ginko biloba
Birth control
and
Benadryl

So, um... yeah. =)
