Well, I want you to be a humanist. I know you will probably think, "oh, I'm a humanist." But what I really mean is that you have understand the point of view that everyone will believe what they want, and you should let them. I think you should go back through it and really understand what he is saying. This really all comes down to the conversation I had with you about gay marriage. You have to allow other people to do what they want, for they do the same to you. You have said, and probably still whole-heartedly believe, that if there was a vote on gay marriage, you would vote to make it illegal. That is an extremely unhumanist thing to do. If there was a vote on whether or not people should be allowed to practice Christianity, though I disagree with Christianity, I would never vote to make it illegal. And just the same, you would be outraged that there was even a debate about it, because we are a nation of free individuals, and I don't have the right to say what religion you practice anymore than you have the right to determine who

lol silly, these arguments are to be saved for our lengthy convo's not my livejournal posts haha... I'm not a humanist then. I may be, but one with more love. Sean, if I strongly believe that gay people, only because of their decisions to live a sinful life and nothing more, are going to end up in hell because of it, I would never, ever vote to allow them to decide to do that. Not being able to get married may cause a fight in just one couple, and then maybe they'd end up breaking up and try being straight? Perhaps? Either way, one person coming out from that and going to heaven is way better then me just allowing it, and "tolerating" people going to hell. I love them in a Jesus way, too much to see that happen. I'll never give up on you. I love you too much. =)

So, what you mean is that you know what's better for them then they do. That is absurd. My best friend Nick is gay, and I absolutely promise you, if there is a hell, he is going anyway. Aside from that, if he doesn't care that if Christianity is true that he is going to hell. He thinks God, in the end, will smite those who carry out ignorance in his name, and thus, he believes that if we make it illegal to practice Christianity, than you won't go to hell. He is just saving you. Well, he doesn't really believe that, but you see what I mean. You can't assume that you are right and everyone else is wrong, or think that if you stop them from marrying then"Jeez, I guess the jig is up guys, let's stop fooling ourselves and be straight, alright?"
Alright, I'll save the rest for a horribly upsetting IM conversation.
You should also note that being a humanist in no way negates your politics of being a republican or religion of being christian, you can be a humanist, and those things. Though, when you truly look deep into yourself and apply these views, you might start thinking or voting a little differently.
A sin is a sin, swearing is just as bad as being gay. I hated how you related the republican party with christians, yes the majority are republicans but that doesn't mean we all are. Christians are suppose to love anyone no matter what, and yes we might not agree with what sexual preference some one has we still love the person but hate the sin. I love my friends but hate the sin, same goes for me. So i hope this person stephanie takes a look at what we believe before going on a rampage of what we stand for.
