Short and sweet

We had a short class day today - much to my relief. I think that the cumulative effects of sleep deprivation are somewhat reminiscent of walking through some highly viscous liquid, all while functioning in a semi-delusional state of mind. It’s weird.

After a lecture we took the pontoon (after 2 minutes of starting troubles) out on the lake and visited a few areas: north Fishtail bay, Sedge point, and Grapevine point. Katie saw an extremely large bowfin just hanging out by the lilies. It was similar in size to the 2.5 footer than Andy caught off the dock, which he turned into some kind of spicy gumbo. I can now say that I’ve tasted bowfin. It wasn’t too bad.

At Sedgepoint we invaded a “leech” pond I previously visited with Wetlands class, but the water level had significantly decreased since that first visit. We didn’t find any leeches, thankfully. We did find several frogs, tadpoles, and a striped garter snake.

It was at Grapevine that Pat and Jared tried to start trouble again, but no one was having it this time. =P Not enough spagnum in a lake to throw around, oh well. =P

On the way back Jake and I jumped off the boat and swam back to shore. It definitely feels a lot farther when you’re swimming. It was a good kind of sore though, I think.

The rest of the day was fairly uneventful; we looked at a few things in lab and worked on project stuff.

(I hope this entry isn’t getting too dry.)

Thursday is Kareoke night at the Hoppie’s (a local bar often taken over by the “Bug camp” students), so there will be more good times, singin’ and dancing =D. I still am in the process of getting used to seeing my ta’s and prof’s in a state of slight inebriation and sometimes going [completely] crazy. It’s strange and amusing and fun all rolled together, and it makes the atmosphere less high strung and a lot more relaxed. Anyway, I haven’t decided what I’m singing yet, but I’m sending one out to my honey ;)

Tomorrow we’re going to Les Cheneaux in the UP with the fish class. It should be very interesting and fun.

2 more days…
