That requires little effort for a Shinigami. We frequently purify or cleanse souls.

I doubt it's as simple as that. This taint, this -- grief. It has to go somewhere.

If you are referring to a soul gem, an item that Kyoko Sakura has, then it is simple as that. Shinigami are multidecade expert of cleansing of the souls. Various kidou, mostly of the healing variety, can be used to modify and cleanse one.

Mayuri-sama specializes in soul technology and studies for the past century. I am made from an artificial soul, a testament to his astounding work.

Has Sakura-san's soul been cleansed by him?

Her. And, to my knowledge, no but it is feasible. Unohana-taichou is an expert of healing souls, even corrupted ones. If there is some goodness left in it, and if it's not totally corrupted, it could be purified by her or myself once my studies and research are complete.

The impurity has to go somewhere. It can't simply be pulled out and left there.

It is modified or completely healed. It's replaced. If you need something to contain the impurity, I can make a vial for it for testing for possible antibodies and ways to get rid of it.
