moving.

on the off chance that i don't perish of fits, i will soon be (officially) living with enf. yes, we had a busy busy BUSY (but productive) weekend last weekend in that we saw, decided on, and were approved for an apartment. it's in "adam's point" which is a mostly residential area west of lake merritt and north of downtown oakland...much more stuff in walking distance than from my side of the lake...including ca_snowflake & caramida, arkibet, and rissymonster & bobsquatch! due to the location, there was much walking around oakland on saturday so that enf could gather enough mental data to talk himself into living in the east bay.
i haven't posted too much about the apartment hunting...it's been going on for quite awhile and was mainly focused on the mission, the castro, noe valley and rockridge (oakland's version of noe valley...but with a bart station at it's heart)...we are very picky people (and not just me, either)...enf has somewhat specific pedestrian requirements for the surrounding neighborhood and we both have somewhat lofty requirements for the building itself (thankfully these tended to overlap).

anyway, we decided on the apartment on saturday & went to talk to enf's housemates on sunday.

more about the apartment:
it is in a 4-unit bldg. that i'd guess was built in the 1930s -- it's only a 1 bedroom, but has a good sized living room, a dining room, lots of picture windows, hardwood floors, a small-ish kitchen (but hopefully w/ enough room for a small kitchen table)...the downfall of the kitchen is that it has an electric stove (which dismays both of us) but the owner/landlord is open to us putting in a gas line/gas stove...we're going to price it out (a plumber should be able to put it in, but i'm guessing it could cost anywhere from $300-$800 -- if we can get it done without a permit, then closer to $300) and if it all goes smoothly, i'm going to start shopping around for a vintage o'keefe & merritt or wedgewood stove! i'd also like to spring for some paint--it isn't freshly painted, but it doesn't need to be painted either...however, everything is eggshell...and i'm dying to live somewhere with color...the owner seemed fine with that so long as he gets to ok the color selection/s first. we also get a private 1-car garage in the back, but no patio or yard to call our own. however, the front of the building, right out our living room window, has ivy and a big tree.

i'm mildly angsty about not having a door directly to the outside, since my kitty is most assuredly an indoor/outdoor cat...but we're on the first floor, so i hope he'll be okay with going in and out a window...i'm also not sure how that's going to fare with having entropy & argv (zahl & enf's indoor cats) living with us while zahl is in europe...also, expect me to be married to my inhaler and tissues the whole time she is gone!

aside from potential cat drama, i think it's going to work out well...i'm quite excited!

enf, moving
